Jane Conners, Partner
LRC Estate Planning
Jane studied music composition and
modern languages at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and was
an experienced business owner and leader in the health care,
software development and entertainment industries prior to
practicing law. She attended law school at Thomas Jefferson School
of Law in San Diego, California, with graduate work at the Ecôle de
Loi, Université de Nice, Nice, France. Jane worked with several
firms before starting her own practice in 2003. She has worked and
traveled throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Jane’s practice focuses on business and individual asset
protection strategies.
Jane is a regular attendee at the
Heckerling Institute for Estate Planning at the University of Miami
and is a member of the ABA Section for Trusts and Estates, the New
York State Bar Section for Trusts and Estates, the California Bar
Section for Trusts and Estates, the Los Angeles County Bar
Association Section for Trusts and Estates, and the San Diego County
Bar Section for Trusts and Estates.

John Rice, Partner
LRC Estate Planning
John obtained his undergraduate degree
in political science and history from the University of Redlands
before attending California Western School of Law. He graduated from
California Western Magna Cum Laude in 1992. While at California
Western, he received American Jurisprudence Awards in Conflicts of
Laws, Torts, Contracts, Civil Procedure, Remedies, Pretrial Practice
and Criminal Procedure. John was admitted to the California Bar in
1992 and practices before both State and Federal courts.
John serves as a director for the
Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and is a member of a the Consumer
Attorneys of California, the Association of Trial Lawyers of
America, The California Bar Association (Estate Planning Section)
and San Diego County Bar Association (Estate Planning Section). John
is an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law
and a regular presenter at numerous continuing education seminars
each year.
John worked as an associate attorney
with the firm of Thorsnes Bartolotta McGuire & Padilla from 1992
until 1997, handling various civil litigation matters. In 1997, John
left the firm to start his own law practice in San Diego. In 1999,
he was joined by Jeff LaFave and LaFave & Rice was formed to
provide legal services to the San Diego community. LaFave & Rice
handles matters in the areas of general civil litigation, civil
trial, bankruptcy, corporations and estate planning.
John is very pleased to have joined
LaFave & Rice with Jane Conners in forming LRC ESTATE PLANNING.
The practice will focus on estate planning for individuals and asset
protection for businesses. With LRC ESTATE PLANNING, John will
continue to focus on serving the needs of individual clients and
building long-term relationships with those he has the privilege of
serving.

Paul Berner, Associate
LRC Estate Planning
Paul is a native San Diegan, growing up
in East San Diego County where he attended Monte Vista High School.
Paul graduated from University of California at San Diego (La Jolla,
CA), with a degree in Urban Studies and Planning in 1994. After
obtaining his undergraduate degree in 1994, Paul then went on to
manage a local waterfront restaurant and teach tennis.
In 2001, Paul graduated from University
of San Diego School of Law. Paul received the Dean’s Outstanding
Scholar Award for the entire 3 years he attended law school. Paul
was admitted to the California State Bar in December 2001, and began
working for LaFave & Rice as an associate. LaFave & Rice
handles matters in the areas of general civil litigation, civil
trial, bankruptcy, corporations and estate planning.
Paul is a member of the Consumer
Attorneys of San Diego, Consumer Attorneys of California,
Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the California Bar
Association (Estate Planning Section) and San Diego County Bar
Association (Estate Planning Section).
During his time away from the office,
Paul enjoys spending time with his young twin girls and wife as well
as family and friends, playing tennis, reading literature,
gardening, golfing and traveling.
